Silver Moon Program
Women helping girls
This is a call to women who no longer have their periods,
to help girls who don’t have access to sanitary products when they need them.
In South Africa, as in so many developing countries, “period poverty” is prevalent, and has a significant impact on the ability of young girls to attend school. “Period poverty” means that a girl (or her family) doesn’t have the means to buy sanitary products, which results in that child having to miss school for anything up to 5 days in a month – potentially 20-25% of the school month! In some societies girls education is less of a priority anyway, so this becomes a double-whammy that can make it incredibly hard for girls to excel in education and thus improve their lives and those of their families in the longer term.

My vision for the Silver Moon Program is to ask women to set up a small monthly donation (the cost of perhaps 2 cups of your favourite tea or coffee, or what you would have spent when you were buying yourself sanitary products) so that there is a consistent flow of donations, and consequently a consistent supply of sanitary products for the girls who need them most.
Note: Access to running water is often an issue in very disadvantaged communities, so disposable sanitary products are a necessity right now. Where running water is available, we plan to provide reusable sanitary products to lessen impact on the environment.

Why the Silver Moon Program?
- Moon: moon = monthly = periods
- Silver: the wisdom of silver haired women (whether or not you are actually silver-haired! ♡), who are in or approaching menopause, and who no longer have periods. As you are no longer spending a monthly amount on your own sanitary products, could you spare that amount to help girls who simply can’t get them in their own home environments?
Donate here
Once your donations have started, you will be in full control through your Paypal account, should you decide at any point to either cancel your monthly subscription (donation) or increase it by setting up a new subscription.
If you need any help with this, or want to ask us to cancel your subscription instead, please get in touch via the Contact page.
If you would like to donate a larger monthly amount, see the main “Donations” page for details on how to do that.
